We have a confession to make. We don’t have a dog! In fact, two of our boys are afraid of dogs. But one of the most common questions we get about a hiking trail is if it is dog-friendly. So we decided to compile a list of dog-friendly trails in Utah. All of these hikes permit dogs, but remember most of them require dogs to be leashed.

One quick reminder about dogs on trails: we love good dog owners that keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their dogs. But nothing is more frustrating than finding dog poop (or even dog poop in a bag) in the middle of the trail when you are hiking. Remember that everyone has to pack out their trash, and you are responsible for your dog’s poop!
Also, as a side note, Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood never allow dogs in their canyons due to watershed, so any hikes in those canyons are off limits for pets. Millcreek Canyon is the opposite. This canyon welcomes dogs all the time and on odd-numbered days they are allowed off leash.
