Rocky Mountain Outfitters Carriage Rides

Rocky Mountain Outfitters hosts fun horse-drawn carriage rides in the winter. These winter carriage rides drive through the Hailstone Campground at Jordanelle State Park near Park City. The horses pull you through beautiful Christmas lights. The experience is lovely as you listen to the clip-clop of the horses hooves and enjoy the lights. Hopefully, there will be snow on the ground, so you can enjoy a sleigh ride. Either way, the Rocky Mountain Outfitters Carriage Rides are great.

The wagons hold 18 people and are pulled by two strong horses.

The carriage ride begins at the campground check-in area. After you check in, you can purchase some treats if you’d like, or you can just stay warm until it’s your turn to hop on a wagon. There is also the option to rent a firepit for a little while and roast s’mores.

Rocky Mountain Outfitters makes everything feel cozy.
Follow the lights to the tent to check in.
We were grateful for the heaters even though it wasn’t very cold!

The carriage ride winds through the campground and the entire area is covered in lights. Our driver turned on some Christmas music to enjoy while we weaved through the lights. Some lights are projections that cover cover the trees and the ground, so you feel like you are right in the lights. The next area has decorated trees and some music in the background. Another area is a large loop with brightly colored lights. We loved all of the areas.

The first area is filled with different laser projections.
Then the ride goes through some lit up trees.
The final loop is through some bright colors.
We really liked this bright light area.

The magic of this adventure is being in the outdoors and enjoying the crisp air. It is definitely a peaceful night and a slight step back in time with the holiday carriage ride. Don’t forget to look up at the stars, too. We asked our driver lots of questions about his horses and Rocky Mountain Outfitters. It was fun to hear stories and learn about the horses. Be sure to bundle up and take blankets because it is extremely cold!

For more information about the Rocky Mountain carriage rides, visit their website. When the weather has no snow, you ride in a wagon, but once snow hits the ground, then you can take a sleigh ride. For other Christmas ideas, check out our Christmas activities in Utah post.

Tips for Families:

  • Bundle up. It’s freezing up there!
  • Bring your own blankets. We are always grateful we take blankets to sit on and keep our legs warm.
  • Go on Friday or Saturday to see Santa.
  • They have hot chocolate and apple cider to purchase, but we like to bring our own thermos for afterward (just to save a little money since this adventure is a splurge).
The whole campground is filled with lights.

We are sorry that you did not have a good experience. Not every adventure works for everyone. We do recommend bringing your own blankets in our post–sorry that you missed that suggestion.
