Things to do in Monticello

Monticello is located in southeastern Utah right between Moab and Blanding. This area is a huge hotspot for adventures, so we have made this page to outline some fun ideas if you are traveling in the area. Here are a few things that Monticello has to offer:

Wilson Arch is located right off the highway between Moab and Monticello. A short, steep hike takes you right up into the arch.

The Frontier Museum is located right on Main Street. Check out a little of Monticello’s history, including a massive tractor built in 1912.

Canyonlands Needles district is just north of Monticello. Several short hikes await, including our favorite to Cave Spring.

Newspaper Rock is right on the way to Needles and features one of the most concentrated petroglyph panels in the world. Be sure to make this stop if you are in the area.

I was also going to comment on the Canyon Country Discover Center! They have a hands on children’s science museum and bouldering wall. Occasionally, they have teacher led activities related to the moon and space. They also host dark sky star parties where you can see planets and galaxies through their giant telescope. They even put together river rafting trips down the San Juan. They’ve updated their website it’s now at- https://www.ccdiscovery.org/

There is also the most authentic Thai food restaurant in Monticello (so says my dad who live in Thailand)

Thank you so much. We haven’t been back to this area to check this center out, but have heard many great things. It is definitely on our list!
